Masked Halloween Party

Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg and howlet's wing.

Double, double, toil and trouble
Fire burn and cauldron bubble
Double, double, toil and trouble

Something wicked this way comes...

I threw my first Halloween Party last Saturday night, i was a masks required party, if you didn't have one, I provided one...  There were about 40 people who showed up throughout the evening, and to my surprise, most everyone came with masks.  Enjoy the pictures from the party!

Crabbing in La Conner

Last Saturday we got up the gumption to go up to the boat that hasn't been used in 5 years.  It is an 18' bayliner that is located in La Conner, Washington.  My friend Barbi keeps the boat up there in case she wants to go crabbing, fishing, etc.  So Chase, Tony & kids, Barbi and I drove up to see if it would still run.  2 hours of cleaning and getting supplies, and off we went.  We headed south towards Whidbey Island on a cloudy (but not rainy) day.  We chose one spot and decided to see if we could catch any Dungeness.  We dropped one pot, and were prepaing the next, when we saw that the current was moving the pot faster than the boat... we quickly pulled it up and decided to go around the next point to try again.  Chase threw the pots overboard and we patiently waited.  After 30 minutes we pulled up the 1st pot and to our surprise found 7 crab (only 1 male large enough to keep), and the 2nd pot had 5 crab (again only 1 keeper).  Success!  Glad we could still make it happen.

We had seafood fest at Tony's house that night, very good. All in all a very good day.

I sooo... need a drink

5 friends of mine took a road trip to the Yakima Valley last weekend, we had a fabulous time tasting wines at the winerys scattered throughout central Washington. The first day we stayed in Ellensberg, for no better reason than we couldn't get rooms in Yakima for Friday night.  This turned out to be a very good thing, we started drinking at 4pm at The Tav (a local college bar), played Hearts on the patio, and proceeded to wash away our work week with laughter.  Dinner that night at Pearls on Pearl, and further after-dinner drinking at Starlight was inexpensive, and fun to be surrounded by the local college kids.  Needless to say, we got off to a slow start on Saturday morning.

Saturday, We headed out to the Red Mountain district (about an hour away from Yakima) and visited 6 tasing rooms.  Our favorite was Fidelitas - they had a very modern location, and great wine - quite a few of us joined thier wine club. Kiona also had an amazing Zinfendel, that could have been the best wine we had that weekend (I got 2 bottles).

Sunday we kept closer to Yakima, and visited 4 more tasting rooms, and loved the wine even better at these locations. Wineglass Winery was very good (quite a few of us also joined thier wine club), but our absolute favorite for the whole trip was a newer Winery called Agate Field - this place had some fabulous wines (we bought the most from this winery).  The wine maker for Agate Field is the same person for Sheridan (they are next door to each other).

All in all I ended up with close to 3 cases of wine from the trip.  Highly successful in helping to fill my wine cellar. Enjoy the pictures from the trip.

Dancing with Scissors

Last night I went to see the premier of Edward Scissorhands, a new musical at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle.  I brought my friend Joe, the one person who would most appreciate it.... (he is an accomplished musician, and one of my best friends).  We had a lovely time...  We had VIP tickets which included a reception at the Producers Club just beforehand.  I came across these great tix at a charity auction for the Women's Funding Alliance, a good charity that helps women in need around the community.

Anyhoo.. the show was very interesting, especially since no one said a word. The entire musical was a live band and dancers, who enacted all of the scenes through dance and pantomime. It was really good.

Say what you do, do what you say...

This is my attempt at writing blog articles more consistently. It actually is more about getting my friend Tony to stop linking to the horrible picture of me that he has posted on his site (no, I’m not going to link to it… you will have to search for it). As soon as I have a web presence he said he would stop linking to it…. Well here it is.

I recently spend the weekend in Vegas, where my friend Barbi and I stayed at the Bellagio (this is the second time I have stayed there, and I have to say, I’m not entirely impressed, I prefer the Venetian.) The event that dissuaded me the most was our dinner at Prime. It is a Jean Georges restaurant – where the one in Manhattan is fabulous – but the one in Vegas was completely overpriced and not very good. We had the Kobe beef steak, that was not cooked well, it was “oily” for lack of a better description. I would not go back there again, I think the tip I ended up leaving (since it was so expensive) could have bought groceries for a week.

The fun part of the trip was going to see Stomp Out Loud, the new show at Planet Hollywood Casino, aka the former Aladdin. My friend Michelle, her friend Mike is the Production Manager for the show, and he got us the best seats in the house (4th row) where we could watch all 16 performers drum/dance/clap their way through the show. This show in Vegas is 2x the size of the touring show, and it is impressive. I recommend going to see it.
